Our Mission is to improve the standard of medical treatment available through the provision of an efficient primary healthcare facility, support network and education.

The Sambel Kunda Clinic

Coming together &
ensuring healthcare for all

Sambel Kunda clinic serves the Niamina district in the heart of the Gambia, West Africa and anyone travelling to the clinic will be seen by a medical practitioner. The nearest hospital is a half an hour journey by a vehicle or, more likely, a two hour trek by foot or donkey cart from Sambel Kunda and its surrounding villages. The clinic provides an invaluable, accessible and necessary resource for both emergency medical treatment and as a primary healthcare facility.

Sambel Kunda Clinic is run by a team of dedicated staff with knowledge of both the Gambian and British Healthcare systems. The clinic is being administered by British Trustees, some of whom have medical training. It is hoped that in the future and if funds permit, we will be able to employ sufficient staff to man the clinic as an inpatient facility and to have a permanent doctor there.

We are working hard to initiate and run Training Programs and Support Groups from the clinic, encouraging the learning of essential new skills.

Training planned includes:

  • First Aid seminars
  • Disease Management
  • Awareness Screening
  • The growing and use of medicinal plants

The Gambian Government's Ministry of Health already work with us to provide vaccination clinics for children as well as ante and post natal clinics for mothers in the area. We will continue to work with the Ministry of Health in order to identify how we can be of most use.
